Butler County Symphony Presents Unique Program; Connects Language Arts and Music

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra has partnered with The Butler Area School District
to present a unique educational outreach program for elementary students aged Kindergarten
through third grade in each of the eleven elementary schools within the district.

“The ABC’s of Symphonies,” a program designed by Music Director and Conductor MatthewKraemer will feature 15 members of the Butler County Symphony orchestra and includes lesson plans and curriculum for teachers. The program will be presented in each elementary school from Monday, October 27 – Thursday, October 30.

Music Director and Conductor Matthew Kraemer explains, “The ABC’s of Symphonies features aconnection between English Language Arts and music. Students will practice their reading skills by exploring word families with similar sounding words (can, fan, man, pan) and instrument families (woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion), which also feature similarities. While listening to diverse orchestral repertoire, students will help create word banks for the sounds they hear. The concert finishes with a telling of the classic children’s storybook, Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham, set to music by composer Rob Kapilow.”

The program is full of audience participation, lots of great music and incorporates various educational resources to reveal the magic of the sounds of the orchestra. Sponsorships are available for each concert. “We have had some positive community support for this project,” says Ed Wadding, Symphony Association President. “The generosity of our business community and from individual donors will help educate and possibly inspire a new generation of musicians.”

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra has a rich and refined Educational Outreach Programthat offers all students in Butler County the opportunity to interact with all of our guest artists, orchestra members and our conductor.
