The 34th Annual Young Artist Competition sponsored by the Butler County Symphony Association will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Swope Hall, Slippery Rock University. Students will audition for our judges, and one student will be chosen to perform as a soloist with the Butler County Symphony.

Audition date/time: Sunday, January 20, 2013, 1:00 – 4:00 PM
Winner receives $400 and will perform with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 9, 2013.
The competition is open to any graduate of a high school within a 25-mile radius of Butler, or any musician currently attending Allegheny, Clarion, Geneva, Grove City, Indiana, Slippery Rock, Thiel or Westminster colleges. Age limit is 25 years.
Orchestral instruments as well as piano and voice are acceptable. Instrumentalists are to prepare a movement from a concerto, or a piece of music with orchestral accompaniment. Vocalists should prepare three or four arias or a song cycle. Time limit for all soloists is 15 minutes. Orchestral accompaniment must be available to order. The student must also provide his/her own accompanist for the audition.
Applicants must submit a preliminary audition CD or cassette tape to the Symphony office by
December 10, 2012 January 7, 2013. Semi-finalists will be notified by January 11, 2013.
